How to Stay Healthy on the Go

June 5, 2025

I can't believe summer is here and kids are out of school (at least in Durango).

As you set out on your summer adventures — whether it's a road trip, a beach escape, or an overseas getaway, you're health and fitness goals don't have to take the backseat to summer vacation! With a little planning and intention, you can feel great while still enjoying every moment.

Here are 3 simple, effective tips to help you stay on track during your travels:

1. Stay Hydrated 💧

Travel days, long afternoons in the sun, and the occasional cocktail can leave you dehydrated without even knowing it. Keep a refillable water bottle with you, pack electrolytes (my favorite brand is LMNT) aim for consistent sips throughout the day, and balance the coffees and cocktails with plenty of water. Your energy levels, skin, and mood will thank you!

2. Prioritize Protein at Every Meal 🍳

While it's tempting to indulge in pastries and gelato, aim to include a good source of protein with each meal. Protein helps keep you full, supports energy levels, and keeps mid-afternoon snack attacks at bay. Think eggs or Greek yogurt at breakfast, grilled fish or chicken at lunch, and nuts or a portable protein shake for easy snacks on the go. (Reach out for my portable protein snack cheat sheet)!

3. Move in Ways That Feel Natural 🚶

You don't need to carve out gym time to stay active while traveling. Explore your destination on foot, rent a bike, take the stairs, or sneak in a quick workout in your hotel or vacation rental before heading out for the day. The goal is to keep your body moving in enjoyable, low-pressure ways while soaking up the sights and having FUN.

Summer travel is about balance and spending time with those you love! Taking a break from your normal routine is good for your mental health and allows your body to reset and come back stronger! Enjoy the treats, take the photos, and aim for simple, sustainable habits that make you feel good along the way!
